My Dear ITEC Scholars of Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia and future candidates,

Today the 15 September 2020 we commemorate the 56th ITEC day virtually. ITEC is a unique programme of Government of India that has played a very constructive role in boosting capabilities of many ITEC beneficiaries including thousands of Ivoirians and Liberians.

ITEC is Government of India’s flagship program conceptualized and implemented on 15 September 1964 aimed at sharing India’s own development experiences with fellow developing countries on the basis of partnership and cooperation for mutual benefit. Its major thrust area is on capacity building of the trainees targeted towards their skill development and professionalism in their respective fields of activity.  ITEC programmes have been gaining increasing reputation due to the quality training imparted by Indian institutions and the warm hospitality extended by India to the scholars. The ITEC training program epitomizes Indian Government’s commitments to strengthen cooperation through capacity building with other developing countries. India strongly believes that Human Resource is at the heart of any economic development and knowledge can help emancipate themselves from the bondage of poverty and ignominy.

Since its inception, the Indian Government have spent more than US$ 2 Billion on ITEC training programmes covering beneficiaries from 158 countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe. Every year Government of India spends more than USD 100 Million on this programme.

As part of the ITEC training program, Government of India offers 100 slots to Ivoirian citizens and 70 slots to Liberia citizens every year through Embassy of India in Abidjan. Over past 3 years, 194 Ivorian and 133 Liberian Nationals have availed the ITEC program. Every year new courses add up based on partner countries’ requirements, thus making the ITEC programmes adjustable, dynamic and tailor-made on demands.

Unfortunately, this year, the global scourge of COVID-19 pandemic has compelled us to suspend the traditional format of physical training and adopt online courses which are extended mainly to healthcare professionals and Police who are at the forefront fighting the pandemic. Since April 2020, 12 ITEC webinars training courses have been organized by reputed institutes like All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (Raipur, Bhubaneshwar & Jodhpur), National Centre for Good Governance, Delhi and Bureau of Police Research and Development, Delhi sharing Experiences and Best Practices to fight COVID-19.

As ITEC program adjusts itself to the new scenario, our commemoration has also changed accordingly. That is why this year’s commemoration is being made virtually. We hope to celebrate the 56th ITEC Day by organizing a function before March 2021 when the situation improves and the local law permits.

For more information for application of ITEC courses as and when it resumes, please contact Embassy of India Abidjan or visit Embassy of India website. Take care and stay safe.

Thank you, Merci & Bon Chance

Jai Hind,
