EMBASSY OF INDIA, ABIDJAN, COTE D'IVOIRE
India established diplomatic relations with Cote d’Ivoire soon after its independence in 1960 and opened its Embassy in Abidjan in 1979. Since then, Embassy has been playing an important role over the years to enhance the traditionally cordial and friendly relations between India and Cote d’Ivoire.
The Embassy with its interlocutors has been coordinating exchanges of high level visits as well as official and commercial delegations between the two countries. The Embassy in Abidjan with the support and cooperation of local authorities has been organizing various events to promote bilateral trade and investments, cultural and people to people contacts.
The Embassy has been playing special role in implementations of our development partnership projects under the GOI’s grants/Assistance as well as Lines of Credits in Cote d’Ivoire through the EXIM Bank of India. One of the important pillars of our cooperation also has been building human resource pool and capacity building by way of sending Ivorian students on training for enhancing their skills to educational institutions in India under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme of Government of India. Besides, there are also many Ivorian students’ studies in India on self-financing basis. All these Ivorian students who came back from their studies in India and holds respectable positions in various institutions formed the cornerstones of India and Cote d' Ivoire's people to people contacts.
The Embassy of India in Abidjan looks after interest of Indian nationals (estimated over one thousand and five hundred as of 2017) residing in Cote d’Ivoire and also renders them consular services.
